Get acquainted with the clinical case – Yogi, the boxer

Intensywna K Yogi

Age approximately 10 years, weight around 77 pounds.

Severe joint degeneration. The cause of degeneration is a torn cruciate ligament and a surgery after which problems with the operated joint almost always occur.

We want to share with you the story of our household member – Yogi the boxer. Yogi is around 10 years old and is a somewhat energetic boy. He fell victim to what often happens to such rascals – a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Perhaps his story will help other dogs experiencing similar issues?

In September 2020, he spotted a partridge in the meadow and just had to chase it at full speed. Unfortunately, the pursuit ended with a torn cruciate ligament.

Initially, we thought it was just a bruise and the limping would stop over time. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Yogi ended up under the knife at the fantastic “Bemowo Veterinary Clinic” in Warsaw. The procedure was successful, and now our dog proudly boasts a titanium joint stabilizer. We joke that when he hops into the car – his “dogmobile” – it doubles its value.

However, such surgery involves deep intervention in the joint. I don’t know how to delicately put it, but fixing such a joint requires sawing bones, brrr.

Such interventions typically result in degeneration, and Yogi’s case is no different.

Here are Yogi’s joint images for comparison.

There’s no way around it, unfortunately. Along with degeneration comes pain. After 8 months, Yogi started limping so badly that he was essentially hopping on three legs. It was sad to see him struggling, especially when he was doing his business and trying not to step in it.

We went for a check-up because we thought the intricate titanium construction had fallen apart… but no, everything was fine… except for the limp.

Solution:

We had to react quickly. There weren’t many options: Salli S and Salli G.

We started giving Yogi shock doses of these supplements with fatty meals (he’s fed a BARF diet):
